Match Report

The Adults and the under 12s travelled the short distance to Winchester (although the minibus got lost – twice!) on Sunday 13th March for a Tournament organised by Hampshire FA.

Bournemouth, Pompey in the Community and Streets Ahead provided the opposition in what proved to be a closely fought competition.

The under 12s, coached by Louis ‘Wenger’ Thomas showed that they are made of sterner stuff than Arsenal by taking all their games by the scruff of the neck and converting their goalscoring opportunities with aplomb. Our 2 debutants, Lewis and Reon, fitted in perfectly and both played amazingly well.

The goals were shared between Junior, James, Tom and Mason – all scored with power and precision – but it was a real all-round team performance with Rhys excelling in goal  and George bossing the midfield. Jada and Jessie, our two utility players, made brief cameo appearances and contributed fully to a marvellous day.

The Adults took a squad of 8 players – a mix of Championship and League – and  like the u12s,  made quite an impression.

Jake Sheedy stepped up an age group but did not at all look out of place with his non-stop running and willingness to close down the opposition. David Gardner, in his natural position in defence, again excelled with Nadeem ‘The Rock’ Suleman alongside him.

Chris and Danny shared the duties in attack with the 2 left-footers peppering the goal with ferocious efforts.

Sam ‘The Cat’ Holloway was his usual calm, unflustered , athletic, Cech-like presence in goal whilst Yama ‘The Blanket’ Noorzad abandoned all hopes of self-preservation and literally threw himself in front of the opposition in an effort to protect our goal. And lastly, but not leastly, Jake ‘Red Face’ Johnson ran himself ragged chasing the ball.

A brilliant day for both teams – plenty of skill, effort, goals and victories. Who could ask for more?
